MILLENIUM WALL PLAQUESAll ex pupils are invited to commemorate their connection with the school, by having a brass plaque mounted on the Millennium Wall. Some of you may recall that originally the Millennium Wall was located outside in the school grounds. Unfortunately, the plaques were becoming weathered, therefore a new location was found. A magnificent old-oak alter-top was unearthed and immediately earmarked to use as a plaque mount. After a good deal of work by Ryde School Maintenance Department, the oak-mount now shines like glass. The weathered plaques were re-polished and placed along with the newer additions. The new location for this splendid display is at the bottom of the stairs, beside the Headmaster's Office in Westmont. This is a wonderful location and we hope you will decide to have a plaque with your details added to the wall.
The brass plaques cost £35 and measure 5" by 2". There is space for three lines of engraving. This is usually one line for name, the next for dates in the school and the lower is usually a comment such as ‘Pupil’ - ‘Prefect’ - ‘Head Boy’ or even a sporting reference such as ‘Rugby Team of 1994’. However, recently the inscriptions have become quite innovative and with a little clever wording, it is possible to include several family members’ details on one plaque. We appreciate a number of you no longer live locally and will not have the opportunity to come to school to see the Millennium Wall. Therefore, if you wish, we will attempt to take a photograph of your plaque and send it to you. If you wish to purchase a plaque, please follow the link to the Millennium Wall application form, or for further information, please contact the Old Rydeians’ Association Secretary, Mrs Joan Robinson:-
